What happens to doctors who think outside the box?

This type of ingenious thinking outside the box is precisely what a chronically iLL patient such as myself dreams of.  #TEAM iLLz Salutes you Dr. Parkinson for going against the grain for the greater good of the patient.

Upon finishing my second residency at Hopkins in Baltimore in September of 2007, I moved back to Williamsburg to start a new kind of practice:

  1. Patients would visit my website
  2. See my Google calendar
  3. Choose a time and input their symptoms
  4. My iphone would alert me
  5. I would make a house call

Excellent conclusions at the end of this article. Even in the minutiae of day-to-day decisions which a doctor faces in his/her medical practice, any innovation which is “not how we’ve always done it” is met with a knee-jerk “Wh-wh-WHAT?!” by administrators, fellow physicians, and other staff. Sadly, medical professionals themselves often form some of the very strongest opponents to the system-level changes that need to happen if we are going to radically revamp American healthcare. :(
